How this works
The Ever Changing Story is a novel written entirely by its readers. Nobody is in charge of what happens next — you are.
Reading
Read shows the story as it stands today, starting with its introduction: every chapter's accepted text, straight through, updated as each voting cycle closes.
Contributing
Contribute is where the story actually gets written. From there you can:
- Propose text for a paragraph that's still open, or suggest a replacement for one that already has accepted text — including the book's own introduction, which is written and voted on the same way as any chapter.
- Vote when more than one person has proposed something for the same spot.
- Suggest an entirely new paragraph or chapter, inserted anywhere — between two existing chapters, or between two paragraphs in one.
Paragraphs run 100–200 words. Each contributor gets one paragraph edit and one new addition per voting cycle, so the story keeps moving without any single voice taking it over.
Cycles
Proposals and suggestions compete for a voting cycle at a time. When a cycle closes, whichever option for a given spot has the most votes is adopted, and the story moves on to the next one.
